ANTIGUA MUNICIPALITY

Management of the opening of the Tower of San Buenaventura

The encounter that took place in Caleta de Fuste with the Commerce, Industry and Centres and Museums' Network councillor of Fuerteventura's Cabildo, José Juan Herrera, the municipal Historic Heritage councillor, Agustín Guillermo Rodríguez, the councillor of Antigua's Ayuntamiento, Tomas Torres Soto , directors of the Hotel Barceló Castillo Beach Resort and representatives of the business association AECA allowed them to unite their efforts and ideas regarding the opening to the public of the emblematic Tower of San Buenaventura. The Tower of San Buenaventura dates back to the 18th century and is classed as an Asset of Cultural Interest. It was renovated five years ago by Fuerteventura's Cabildo with the collaboration of Antigua's Ayuntamiento. Again, both institutions unite their efforts with AECA and Barceló to help with the purchase and manage the future opening of the Tower to the public. This meeting was the first point of contact in order to unify their ideas and create a common initiative that will strengthen the history and characteristics of the Tower of San Buenaventura that will open its doors to the public and will become a tourism, cultural, social or historic location, indicated Mr Herrera after announcing the intention of Fuerteventura's Cabildo to get to an agreement with the owners for the purchase of the Tower. The councillors of Antigua's Ayuntamiento, Agustín Rodríguez and Tomas Torres Soto agreed to support this initiative by allowing the use of this historical building that will become a tourism asset for Caleta de Fuste but also a very special location for many activities, exhibitions and other events. On the other hand, the businesses of AECA and the directors of the Barceló Hotel showed their interest and offered the collaboration required to bring dynamism and convert the Tower of San Buenaventura into a reference in Caleta de Fuste.

The English Football League searches for talents in Antigua

The Municipal Football Ground became the chosen location by the talent scout of the English Football Federation, Carlos Karani, in July. The best football cadets of Fuerteventura were gathered there, including an exceptional American girl football player who lives in Fuerteventura and has already been requested by other teams. “The objective of this gathering if to observe the players' game and technique and also to advise them on what type of game and technical bases they need in order to play in the professional cadet league”, explained Karani. During this first contact with the players, the talent scout indicated that he was able to assess their abilities, especially for two boy players as well as a girl player from the United States who has an excellent level. They all have opportunities if they work on the advice they were given and there will be another gathering in three months time when we will decide who can take part in the challenge to play with a professional cadet team in the premier league, added Karani.
