"Beginning of the second non-professional photography contest #Biosférate"

Further to the success of the first edition, the Cabildo renews the non-professional photography contest #Biosférate, that aims at generating interest on social networks and promoting the preservations of the island amongst the younger generations. The president of the Cabildo, Marcial Morales and the Environment councillor, Natalia Évora, presented in July the bases of this second edition of the contest that will take place through the social networks Instagram and Facebook within the “Biosférate” campaign of Fuerteventura's Biosphere Reserve. The second contest #Biosférate aims at giving visibility to Fuerteventura as a Biosphere Reserve. Therefore, it asks participants to take pictures within two modalities: “Biosférate Impressions” and “Biosférate across the world”.

The modality “Biosférate Impressions” is aimed at participants that capture special moments of harmonious cohabitation between human beings and the environment, enjoying the island “without leaving a trace”. Participants will need to share photos that are creative and show landscapes of Fuerteventura that show why we must care for it as a Biosphere Reserve. The photos must be accompanied by comments or an impression that reflects the moment when the photo was taken, the sensation it produces or the description of the location. “Biosférate across the world” aims at receiving photos of special moments experienced by participants during their trips outside the Island, in emblematic places or monuments, while wearing a Bisoférate cap or rucksack or other, showing proudly the benefits of living on an Island that is a Biosphere Reserve.

The photos must also be accompanied by a small comment or impression regarding the moment captured in the picture, indicating the name of the location, monument, town or country where it was taken. People interested in participating can upload their photos on Instagram or Facebook until the 12th September 2018 with the hashtag #Biosférate in the description when publishing the picture. The winners in each modality will enjoy a trip for two with experiences of ecotourism on one of the Canary Islands chosen by the organisers. Participants must be followers of the profiles of Fuerteventura's Biosphere Reserve on Instagram (@fuerteventurabiosfera) or on Facebook (Fuerteventura, reserva de Biosfera) and they can participate with as many pictures as they wish. The rules of the contest are available on the official Facebook page of “Fuerteventura, Reserva de la Biosfera”. The Worldwide Network of Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO contains reserves in over one hundred countries where the natural environment and society live side by side and aim at promoting the preservation of the environment with a sustainable economic and human development. Fuerteventura has been awarded the title of Biosphere Reserve for its commitment to aspects such as renewable energies, water management, responsible fishing and the work of the population for sustainable development.
