The Official Language School celebrates its 30th anniversary

For the next 2023/2024 term, Puerto Del Rosario's Official Language School (Escuela Oficial de Idiomas – EOI), affiliated with the Education Council of the Canarian Government, will celebrate its 30th anniversary, since it opened, in 1992. When it was created, the EOI consisted of 4 teachers and about 120 students, and English was the only language taught. Since then, the demand for language courses has kept on increasing and last year, the school had 12 teachers teaching German, Spanish as a foreign language, French and English, in the Puerto del Rosario head office, as well as in the classes organised in Corralejo, where they teach Spanish and English and in Gran Tarajal, for English courses. Four languages are taught in the main centre in Puerto del Rosario: German, Spanish as a foreign language, French and English. Therefore, the north, centre and south areas of Fuerteventura are covered. The classrooms are equipped with audio equipment, computers, the Internet, a projector, etc. The main centre in Puerto del Rosario also offers a library where students can borrow books, magazines, or films in various languages. This is the only school in Fuerteventura where students can obtain the A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 official diplomas in the languages taught, which are valid in the whole of Spain, as per the directives of the Common European Language Regulations. Over the past few years, more than twelve hundred students have registered for each term, a number that varies yearly, which demonstrates the interest of the population to learn languages, on an island like Fuerteventura, where tourism is the main motor of the economy.
